About ARCOS
ARCOS Dance is a contemporary dance company based in Austin, Texas. ARCOS combines cutting-edge choreography with equally evocative music, video, and theater elements to push past the lines that separate artistic disciplines and to innovate distinct new forms.
ARCOS Directors embody their mission in both traveling repertoire shows and evening-length multimedia productions. Uhlemann and Gionfriddo co-choreograph the company’s repertoire - a unique process forged by their years of artistic collaboration and equally insatiable appetites for visceral, athletic movement.
As residents of Santa Fe, New Mexico for seven years before the creation of ARCOS, both Uhlemann and Gionfriddo built up an impressive following of dance students and supporters in the community. Expanding on their experience as Artistic Director of an acclaimed southwest dance company, and School Director of a highly productive pre-professional training program, Uhlemann and Gionfriddo decided to embark on their own creative journey that would combine their respective talents and expertise. ARCOS Dance was created to fill the need for professional level performance opportunities that would serve the level of highly trained dancers in the greater New Mexico area. After their debut in Catalonia, Spain, and an impressive premiere season, the success of ARCOS allowed the organization to evolve into a full-time professional touring company. ARCOS was selected as a finalist in the 2012 MacCallum Choreography Festival in Palm Desert, CA, and their most recent multimedia production, The Warriors: A Love Story, has received the distinct honor of being produced for the 2014 Edinburgh Fringe Festival. In the spring of 2013, ARCOS Directors relocated to Austin, TX to engage in the city’s vibrant arts scene, and contribute to the community through their own artistic expression.
